Sorry i couldnt catch you all up tonight but it would appear i have lost my electrics as there is no spark at the spark plug. Does any one have an idea what the problem is, the scoot is fitted with a variotronic.
It was coughing and farting a bit on the way to the Mariner and then wouldnt start :( :( :( :(
Any advice would be welcome :D :D

Hi Paul

The regulator will not stop the spark unless it's shorting all out to earth. If theres no spark it's either a loose connection (the best option), the cdi unit or faulty stator. I don't know too much about varitronic though. I'd strip off the electrics (disconnect from regulator) and leave only the cdi to create a spark - this removes the electrics up the sccooter.

Hi Paul
Check the simple things first such as the HT lead, check if the pug cap is still on the HT secure and its nice and tight in he CDI. I had this problem not longs ago and it was the spark plug cap that came loose for the HT lead.

After much pulling around with wires on the cdi unit and ht lead and plug cap the old girl now starts :D :D .Ive just taken her for a spin round the block and shes still coughing and farting but a lot less than last night which begs the question
1 Is the rough running relitive to the not starting issue :? :?
or
2 Could it be a seperate issue like carberation :? :?
when its in neutral it revs freely the revs pick up smoothly and come down quickly but when riding its rough through the gears :( :(
Any one got any ideas
Paul
:D :D

Ive now fitted a new HT cap and she now starts fine the old cap had worn inside and wasnt sitting on the spark plug very well, i have also adjusted the mixture on the carb as it was running a bit rich.
Taking her for a road test tomorrow hope to see you all at Quayside sunday
:D :D :D

Hi Paul
No problem mate, glad it's all sorted. I have learned that most of the problems that happen when you are stationary are fine it's ones that happen when you are moving that can be a problem.
